What is Yoga Therapy?

Yoga therapy is defined by the International Association of Yoga Therapists (IAYT) as ‘the professional application of the principles and practices of yoga to promote health and wellbeing within a therapeutic relationship that includes personalised assessment, goal-setting, lifestyle management, and yoga practices for individuals or small groups.’

At Ancient Yoga Academy, our Integrated Approach of Yoga Therapy programme trains graduates to work with individuals across a wide spectrum of health and lifestyle needs — using yoga asana, pranayama, meditation, mantra, therapeutic dialogue, and Ayurvedic lifestyle principles as therapeutic tools.

Yoga Chikitsa (Therapy), applies the entire ancient science of Yoga and Ayurveda on an individual basis to support clients in reducing and managing symptoms, improving function, and moving toward improved health and well-being.

What includes in course?
Who this programme prepares you to work with — Graduates learn to develop yoga therapy plans supporting clients across a range of health concerns, including stress-related conditions, respiratory and cardiovascular concerns, musculoskeletal pain, metabolic and digestive conditions, and women’s health. Practices are adapted to the individual, delivered within the IAYT Scope of Practice, and offered alongside — never in place of — the client’s medical care.
