Code of Ethics & Professional Standards

Ancient Yoga Academy (AYA) is committed to the highest standards of professional and ethical conduct in all areas of its operations. This Code of Ethics applies to AYA's board, management, faculty, staff, students, and all individuals involved in the delivery of AYA programmes.

AYA adopts and upholds the Professional Code of Ethics of the International Association of Yoga Therapists (IAYT). All yoga therapy faculty and graduates are expected to practise in accordance with IAYT's Code of Ethics and Scope of Practice.

1. Professional Conduct

  • All faculty and staff will act with integrity, honesty, and respect in all professional interactions.
  • Faculty will represent their qualifications, training, and experience accurately and truthfully.
  • Faculty and students will not misrepresent the nature, scope, or outcomes of yoga therapy.
  • AYA personnel will maintain appropriate professional boundaries with students and clients at all times.

2. Scope of Practice

  • Yoga therapy at AYA is understood as the professional application of the principles and practices of yoga to promote health and wellbeing — not the diagnosis or medical treatment of disease.
  • AYA yoga therapy practitioners will work within their scope of practice and will refer students or clients to licensed healthcare professionals when appropriate.
  • AYA graduates are trained to collaborate with, not replace, conventional medical and mental health professionals.

3. Client and Student Welfare

  • The wellbeing, dignity, and safety of students and therapy clients are AYA's foremost concerns.
  • Yoga therapy sessions will begin with a personalised assessment and informed consent process.
  • Student and client information is kept strictly confidential in accordance with Singapore's Personal Data Protection Act (PDPA) and AYA's Privacy Policy.
  • AYA does not discriminate against any student or client on the basis of race, religion, gender, age, nationality, disability, or sexual orientation.

4. Faculty Standards

  • All yoga therapy faculty hold a minimum of E-RYT 500 or equivalent, with demonstrated expertise in their specialist areas.
  • Faculty engage in ongoing professional development and continuing education.
  • Faculty are expected to model ethical conduct and professional integrity for students at all times.

5. Grievance and Complaints

  • Students or clients who experience a breach of this Code of Ethics may submit a written grievance to the Academic Director at enquiry@ancientyogaacademy.com .
  • All grievances will be acknowledged within 5 business days and investigated within 30 days.
  • AYA will take appropriate corrective action where a breach is substantiated.
  • Students may also refer complaints to IAYT at www.iayt.org.

6. Commitment to IAYT Standards

AYA is an IAYT-affiliated school and is committed to operating in alignment with IAYT's evolving educational and professional standards. This Code of Ethics is reviewed annually and updated as required.
